Republican Tara Malek is a pro-law enforcement, pro-education, pro-constitution candidate for office who will fight for our individual freedoms. Her experience, passion, and drive will make her an extremely effective defender for the values Idahoans hold dear. She is running for office because she believes in public safety, preserving our public lands, and defending our rights.
Tara Malek is a former drug prosecutor, a current business owner, active community member and wife.
A first generation American, Tara immigrated to the US when she was three. She graduated from the University of Idaho Law school and has lived in Idaho for the last fourteen years. Tara has dedicated herself to helping Idahoans and her community all while enjoying the many blessings and privileges that the state has to offer.
Tara’s career in public service began at the Kootenai County Prosecutor’s office where she quickly rose from a misdemeanor prosecutor to a felony drug prosecutor. Primarily working with specialized drug task force teams, Tara collaborated with law enforcement to help deter and stop the flow of drugs into the Kootenai County community. Tara then accepted a position prosecuting drug dealing gang members as a Special Assistant United States Attorney and then as an Assistant United States Attorney in Boise. Tara also worked to ensure the integrity of our immigration system by prosecuting those individuals who illegally entered the United States.
In 2018, Tara decided to move back to Coeur d’Alene and joined Smith + Malek, PLLC as an owner and civil litigator. Since then, Tara has devoted herself to growing the business with her team and creating an environment supportive of working parents. Tara lives in Coeur d'Alene with her husband Luke and when she isn't campaigning loves to spend her time with family and friends in the outdoors.
With a passion for public service, Tara has continued to give back by serving on numerous local and statewide boards. Tara has also been recognized as a Leader in Law, Accomplished Under 40, one of the Women of the Year honorees, and Top 30 Under 40.
